Principles of Design

This week we learned about the way the 7 elements are used in design. There are 5 basic principles. Here are my interpretations of them:

1) Balance. Think of whether the photo is symmetric. Does it show balance? Or is the photo asymmetric and shows an almost equal off balance?

2) Proportion. Are the elements in the photo equal or pleasantly unequal? Do you see space and distance?

3) Rhythm. Do the elements move? Are they all positioned in the same direction? Does the style allow for movement?

4) Emphasis. Closely related to proportion, do the elements have a focal point?

5) Unity. Do all the elements work together? Is there a consistancy throughout the photo?
